How are visits arranged?
Contact me directly using the information on my contact page. For the best selection of dates, many schools schedule their visits 6-12 months ahead of time. If distance and transportation aren't big factors, 2 months notice is often adequate.
How much does an author visit cost?
Cost is determined by length of visit and location of school in relation to Waverly, Iowa. It also depends on factors such as the type of program the school wants. I can do half-day, whole-day, and multiple-day visits to small or large groups. I also offer hands-on workshops. To share lodging and transportation costs, neighboring schools often schedule their visits on consecutive days. For more details, contact me directly.
Do you offer book sales and signings?
Yes. I will send a sample order form for you to use. To be sure children get the books they want, it’s best to take orders and collect money from students before my visit. I will bring the signed copies with me. I can bring a few extra books along for on-site sale too.
How can teachers prepare students for a visit?
Most schools purchase or borrow a set of books so the librarian can briefly introduce students to the books. I’d recommend not reading them aloud cover to cover, since much of my visit will be spent digging into the books. Some teachers ask the children to think of questions to ask before my visit. My books are written at a second to third grade reading level.
